DAVID PONS COACH PHILOSOPHY : THE RISING
I am David Pons I was born in Barcelona, I consider myself a coach very influenced by the philosophy of FC Barcelona, that Johan Cruyff established, a methodology based on the saving ball, pressing quickly after losing ball, build the team from behind, an idea game based on triangles, always playing in reduced spaces and much more ideas of the game, but at the same for my experience around the world is very important how you can adapting to the team, to the country, to the culture, sometimes depending on the players you have to make some variations in details to promote the fluidity of the game depends of the team quality, and what is required according to the opponents.
As a coach I always thing we going to win, always with a wining mentality, no matter who you have in front of you, analize it, study it, and beat it.
Also i have clear i like to improve the players in all the areas, understanding that if we involve the players on this improvement, we will have better persons, and with better persons is easy the learning processes, then we achive better players.
My mentors have always told me that I am a focused, passionate, meticulous, perfectionist coach, and that my best quality is that I always get on with my teams, that is to say that the players believe in me blindly, each one knows what to do , there is a clear idea of the game, and above all they know why and what they must do each thing for.
And it’s true, I like to control absolutely everything, to bring the players to their best version and also to reduce the luck factor in the team to the maximum. We always work so that bad luck does not accompany us and vice versa.
I like to teach that players have an essential thing for me in high performance, which is knowing how to differentiate, when they must do something or not, when they must reach a goal, or not, when they must make a tackle at the right time. Well, with the team’s training climate it is the same, I take care that there is maximum demand when there should be, and that there are also training sessions, talks, more relaxed to relax, laugh and have fun, I understand that balance is the basis of everything, to achieve performance and well-being in a human team.
I like to have many automated tasks, studied, worked on, trained, important actions depending on our own strengths and weaknesses and of course I also like to work depending on the strengths and weaknesses of the opponent and also leave a very wide space for improvisation of the footballer.
I have learned over many years from what I consider to be the best in set-ball strategy, improving plays and creating my own, I believe that my teams both defensively receive very few goals in strategy, as offensively we usually score quite a few goals.
For me, my life as a coach is above all, winning small battles and above all making others win small battles, with themselves, and with the team, through continuous teaching, learning, and self-learning. It never stops, day by day, we work, with the problem-solution method, in our training sessions and outside of them. Just understanding this is already a first victory. We only compete against ourselves, this sport is fabulous, wonderful it has given me everything, but it is probably in a sport with more secrecy. Very little is shared, it takes a lot to get to relevant information, and you have to make a lot of sacrifices to get to it.
We are privileged, we train soccer players, but at the same time, we change lives, in fact I always like to say that when I get better people, I find better players. Everything is united, we are a whole. Soccer is a whole, and life too.
As the great Cesar Luis Menotti said. Who only knows about Football, probably dont know about anything. To be a good coach, you have to control all the areas, also you have to know how to reach the emotions of the player, to revolutionize their full potential, you must know everything. Always trusting in the power of the group, having a good staff, which is probably one of the most important things.
I like that the players feel important with my training methodology, this is a game and the players have to have fun, but behind it there has to be a serious work, programmed, and open to change. I remember my first international experience in Saudi Arabia how at the end of training the players spontaneously applauded me, it is always a pride to live this type of experience in different countries and learn from their cultures.
This is a little resume of my own phylosophy like a coach, if you want to know something more about my coaching program, please:
